Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is seeking an experienced engineer to support analysis, calibration, simulations, and mathematical modeling of spacecraft flight data. Chandra X-ray Observatory, launched in xxxx, is one of NASA’s Great Observatories and delivers ground-breaking science year after year. The Flight Operations Team works on-site with the Harvard-Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory customer in Cambridge MA to plan and execute all Observatory activities, perform all spacecraft command and control and actions, and maintain the health and safety of the spacecraft. The team works in a collaborative environment to develop innovative solutions that maintain the efficiency and capability of this highly visible NASA mission. The Spacecraft Controls Analyst will analyze system performance to develop recommended changes to spacecraft configuration, flight software algorithms, and ground procedures. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with numerical analysis and system level modeling using Matlab or Python; experience with spacecraft design and/or operations; the ability to work with schematics and technical drawings; familiarity with modern configuration management systems; and familiarity with Linux/Unix based Operating Systems. Experience with spacecraft attitude control systems and the ability to define, collect, integrate, clean, and manage potentially large data sets is also highly desirable. Members of the Chandra Flight Engineering Team interact directly with project scientists and engineers from Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and NASA. Therefore, to be successful in this role, the candidate must possess the ability to distill and communicate complex technical issues and resolution plans to customers, managers, factory support personnel, and multi-disciplined peers. This position is nominally day shift hours, but the Spacecraft Controls Analyst will be expected to be on-call for emergencies or critical operational activities, which may occur outside of nominal business hours.
