More Information about Jake:
In his student years, Jake was given a firm foundation in Cape Breton music, a tradition derivative of Scottish fiddle music, through participating in many camps and workshops in fiddle and step-dance with master musicians including Jerry Holland, Ashley MacIsaac, Andrea Beaton, Mairi Rankin, Mike Hall, Doug Lamey, Mac Morin, and Kimberly Fraser. These musical giants focused not only on technique, but also the importance of culture, attitude, respect, perseverance, and humility.
While studying for his B.A. in Music at St. Lawrence University in Upstate New York, Jake began performing with folk singer Alex Smith. In the summer of xxxx, Jake toured the East Coast with Alex. That same summer, Jake was featured on Alex's record ?Hamilton County,? which was produced by Jack Radcliff of Wepecket Island Records, and received radio play nationwide. He simultaneously founded and ran a community contra dance organization, holding monthly events which consistently drew 60 or more dancers. In order to build a cohesive dance band, Jake also founded and taught a tune school, which soon became a partnership with local arts organization TAUNY.
Jake continues to teach, perform with Alex Smith, and will soon begin studies in Violin Making.
