The Mmmmaven Project is Metro Boston's first DJ and EDM production academy, dedicated to the education of new music DJing and production. Located in the heart of Central Square in Cambridge, Mmmmaven is launching its introductory DJ classes in the month of March. No equipment is required, just an hunger to learn the art of DJing from some of the biggest and boldest musical minds in the area.

DJ 101
Let's get it started! DJing has a long history with thousands of stories. Time to begin to write your own. Our basic DJ 101 course will teach you the ins and outs of the equipment, get your hands dirty in some new technology and author your first six-song minimix. Gonna be fresh.
What You'll Learn:
History, including: Why do we play records?
Vinyl vs. Digital vs. Controller (Advantages & Disadvantages)
The Era of Digital DJing
How the DJ setup works: Turntables, Mixer, Headphones, etc.
Basic Music Theory.
Introduction to Digital DJing with Serato.
Mixing Styles.
Learn the art of beat-matching.
Tempo & Pitch.
Sound Design: find out what makes a good mix.
About the Program
This program is available on weekday nights for two weeks, Mon-Thu from 7pm-10pm. It is also available on the weekends, as part of the Weekend Intensive Program, featuring classes Sat. & Sun. from 11 am -- 6 pm for two weekends.
You will develop these skills working at your own personal student stations, which are equipped with industry standard and cutting edge technology and software.
You will immediately get hands on experience and will learn from the best DJs and Producers in Boston. Not only will they make sure you learn and master all the necessary techniques, but they will share their valuable experience and insights of the Industry.
DJ 102
Now that you've learned the basics, it's time to add a touch of individuality. You need to organize your favorite tracks and get in the mix with different styles. What's the best way to brand and market yourself? Our experts show you how. It's the next big leap to get you ready to rock the club.
Pre-Requisites:
-Be able to have the confidence to make a mix.
-Be able to have knowledge of beatmatching.
-Feel comfortable setting up and tearing down.
-Feel comfortable being self directed on basics (software, hardware).
What you'll learn:
History.
Mixing Techniques with Serato, including looping, bitrates and building crates.
Serato Commands.
Advanced DJ Concepts: Scratching
Beat Juggling
Sampling
Learn how to blend different genres.
The Marketplace: Branding and Promotion.
About the Program:
Once you finish the program of DJ 102, you will be ready to rock the club, and you will have the opportunity to play live for your friends and family in one of the city's clubs.
