The main focus of this work is protein purification process development, including chromatography, filtration, membrane separations, and validation of viral and contaminant clearance. Additional duties include biochemical characterization of proteins, data analysis, and project reporting. The candidate will also be responsible for purifying and characterizing monoclonal antibodies in support of projects from early stage discovery through clinical manufacturing, as well as the scale-up and technology transfer of purification processes to the Manufacturing group. The incumbent is expected to have excellent time management skills, with the ability to adapt to changes in project priorities and meet deadlines. The individual should also enjoy working in a team setting. Responsibilities: MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: * Purification of proteins using column chromatography, filtration, and membrane separations. * Exercising technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies within defined parameters. * Operating and maintaining standard laboratory and department-specific equipment and troubleshooting equipment problems within scope of experience. * Maintaining reagent and equipment inventories, ordering supplies and cleaning laboratory areas, hoods and common equipment. * Performing analytical biochemistry assays and other laboratory testing as required. * Maintaining timely, accurate, and detailed documentation per cGMP and MassBiologics' SOPs, as well as contributing to the development of improved documentation and organization processes. * Leading efforts to coordinate assay requests and data entry on common projects. * Analyzing data and providing accurate, concise and pertinent summaries and reports of data. * Contributing to writing protocols, project summaries, and technical reports. * Preparing written and oral reports for presentation to the supervisor(s) and development group. * Training junior personnel on techniques and equipment. May supervise lower-level personnel. * Performing additional job-related duties as required. Qualifications: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Requires a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field with a minimum 2 years of relevant experience. Candidates with less experience may be considered for an entry-level position. * Working knowledge of protein purification theory and hands-on experience with FPLC chromatography workstations, such as AKTA or Duo-Flow. * The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, have excellent organization and communication skills, and be able to function in a collaborative environment, multi-task, and handle multiple responsibilities. * Able to follow instructions precisely, recognize deviations, and recommend corrective action within scope of training. * Strong critical thinking and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in order to meet deadlines. * Possesses strong attention to detail, ability to maintain accurate records and excellent proofreading skills * Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
